philosophy of photography
Photography is my passion. It is the language of expression, an extension of the soul, and a record of existence. Creativity is always enhanced by a constraint. A lesser camera makes you think. Thought is better than automation in art. Creativity is what makes your images unique; don’t stifle it for a more automated “workflow”. Concentrate on making your images remarkable, instead of marketable. The goal is to create amazing photographs not money. Don’t over spend on gear. Emotions are not measurable in print size or pixels. Real output is judged by the reaction an image evokes. Your photography must tell a story. The combination of visual and written skills are inescapably linked. Making art is a primal, intimate, and universal ritual of storytelling. If your photography needs countless layers of software and filters, you’re probably not saying much of anything. The beauty is right in front of your lens. As an artist exploration is a must. Be confident in your choices. All mistakes should be embraced, re-working and risk taking is key to success. The garbage can is the most important tool in the darkroom. Editing is the skill that separates the amateurs from professionals. Having the necessary gear, the clear enough vision to appreciate beauty, and the knowledge to capture it makes a photographer. |
